Are Your Beliefs Limiting Your Future?

My mom was an amazing woman. For more than eight years, she battled stage four breast cancer. It was inoperable, but she pressed on. She beat cancer once, but it came back several years later, and we weren’t sure how long she had. It made us grateful for time. Time to laugh, time to dance, time to work, and time to see her and my dad with their grandchildren. The truth is, life is short, and we often put off what we should do today and think we’ll get to it tomorrow.

So today, I’m asking you to join me in daring to dream. To stretch your beliefs and dare to do something worth talking about. Something that you’ve always wanted to do.

We’re all facing some sort of storm in our lives. Whether it’s in our business or personally; we all have a lot going on. And sometimes, it can feel rather lonely like no one understands or gets what we’re going through. I know I feel that pressure and loneliness on occasion. It’s in those moments that I start listening to myself instead of talking to myself. Those are the moments when I hear all the reasons why something isn’t going to work or that no one will value it. It happens to us all. You are not alone.

Five years ago, I launched PerceptionStrategy and now it’s turned into a partnership with a long-time friend and founder of MediaFuel. Together at MediaFuel, a digital marketing agency, we’re helping our clients grow and giving our team members the opportunity to do great work. As my partner, Jeff Kivett, will tell you launching a business or any new adventure will put a fine point on where you put your trust and who you put your trust in. It is a complete leap of faith into the unknown, but after all every one of us was created for a great adventure.

Think about all the stories that you’ve enjoyed over time. From Star Wars to American Sniper, every great story has an element of belief in it. And sometimes, what we believe is the very thing that is holding us back from achieving our dreams. Remember Luke saying, “But with the blast shield down, I can’t even see! How am I supposed to fight?” His initial beliefs were holding him back.

When my mom was re-diagnosed with cancer, all I could see was a blast shield, but that’s a long time ago now. Her journey of faith has given me a reason to never quit. There will always be new blast shields put in front of us, but we have the power of belief on our side. The power to believe that there is something bigger at work; something that pushes us to press on toward our goals. It’s not always easy. There isn’t always a Hollywood ending, but as Charles Swindoll has said, “10% of life is what happens to me. 90% is how I react to it.”

So, what are you putting off today because of your self-limiting beliefs?  Do you need to stop listening to yourself and start encouraging yourself about what the future could look like? A man or woman is trapped only by the beliefs in his or her mind. What is it time for you to start doing today that you’ve been putting off until tomorrow? Here are a few of the goals I’m trying to achieve this year to inspire your journey.

  1. Date my wife at least one time per month.
  2. Read 20 books by the end of the year and write 20 blogs.
  3. Become less focused on what I want and more on how the Lord wants to use me to His glory.
  4. Grow our digital marketing agency by achieving our quarterly revenue and profit targets.

I have about five more, but I’ll let you take it from here. Don’t wait. Time keeps moving.
